Year 5 were treated to an amazing day of activities and challenges at the Wrekin College Business School.
In a jam-packed programme, we worked in teams to invent, develop, design and cost new inventions which were selected by a combination of throws of a dice. Among the fiendish combinations were ‘pyjamas and school bags’, ‘chocolate and books’ and ‘trainers and pens’. The combinations tested our imagination, and our budgeting skills, but the finished ideas were amazing. Each team had to present a ‘Dragons’ Den’ pitch to the assembled dragons, (teachers!) who awarded prizes for the best teamwork, most commercial idea and the most desirable product.
Among the team-building challenges which helped us to work together were tasks including building a structure to house one of our team using only a newspaper and some straws, writing a team slogan and designing a logo. We soon discovered that it was easy to come up with ideas, not so easy to compromise and pool our thoughts to make them ‘ours’ not just ‘mine’. For some of us this was the biggest challenge of all.
The overall winners were the GOATS (Greatest of All Time) team, with their design for pyjamas that turn into a school bag... it could catch on!
Sustained by drinks, biscuits and packed lunches it was an educational and rewarding day for us all... with some budding entrepreneurs emerging from among our ranks. Watch this space!
