Sports Report

Netball

The netball teams have been in action this week. The Under 14s took on Shrewsbury School's Under 16s and won convincingly. Then the Firsts and Seconds played Wolverhampton Grammar School with the Firsts gaining a 34-12 win and the Seconds losing out in a close game. On Thursday, the Firsts travelled to Hertford to play Haileybury College. In a nail-biting match, Wrekin won 34-28, to go through to the last 16 of the National Under 19 Independent Schools Cup. An amazing achievement.

Congratulations to Macey Lane and Beth Loveday who represented WASPS Under 17 team in their victory over Oxford on Saturday.

Rugby

The 2nd XV played Ellesmere College but lost 55-10 to a very physical opposition: Wrekin scored two good tries in the second half.  On Saturday, the 1st XV beat Adams' Grammar School 6-3.  The final First team game of the season resulted in a hard-fought victory against local rivals where Wrekin's spirited defence proved the difference between the two sides.  The Under 15s lost to Adams' Grammar School 0-29 and the Under 14s also lost 5-49.  Both junior sides were beaten by a strong opposition but have a chance next week to finish the season on a high.

Hockey

On Wednesday, the Under 13s beat Prestfelde School 10-0 and on Saturday, the Under 12s battled well against a strong and skillful Princethorpe College. An outstanding performance came from Charlotte Cave in goal with the final score being 5-1. The Under 13s had a tough game against strong opposition from Princethorpe and suffered a heavy 10-0 defeat. Poppy Abel put in a good display in the Wrekin goal too. Congratulations to Jess Hood who has been selected for the County Under 14 squad.

Basketball

On Monday, the basketball team took on TCAT in their first ever fixture.  They lost the game 74-47 but there were plenty of positives to take from the match as well as much that could be learnt ready for the next game.

Football

On Wednesday the First XI football team played Oswestry losing out 7-3. There were four football matches for Lancaster A ,B ,C and D squads against Prestfelde School on Wednesday with three squads securing wins. In the A squad there were particularly good performances from Beltran Burgos and Nathan Cox. Well done to all the boys.

Cross Country

A number of athletes from Wrekin represented Shropshire in a seven counties tournament held in Warwickshire. They all ran well against strong counties such as Surrey and the West Midlands. Ruby Richards was 14th out of 81, Reuben Crombie 10th out of 74, both first in for Shropshire. Gina Rowlinson came 31st out of 51 and Ross Corbett 38th out of 63 in their respective races. However, pride of place goes to Henry Williams who was 6th out of 84 in the Minor boys race for which he receives a gold medal.

Swimming

The Lancaster swimmers recently took part in the Northgate Open Meet. They all swam Personal Bests and a special mention must go to Sami Glover and Macey Males who won medals.  

House Indoor Rowing 

The individual boys event was won by Tom Gittins, George Perkins was second and Charlie Stott third.  The girls event was won by Holly Townson, second was Pip Maddocks and third Jess Cant.  The House winners were Bayley and Clarkson and Tom Gittins and Holly Townson set new college records.
