This fantastic event was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon (apart from one short sharp shower) and was enjoyed by over 70 Old Hall families. Many thanks to all who came and joined in this excellent event. It was never suggested as a fundraiser, simply as a lovely afternoon for all, funded by The Friends of the Old Hall School. Money well spent!
This year’s Summer Ball was held on June 24 - the most glamorous ever staged by the Friends of the Old Hall School. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of our close connection with Wrekin College and the move to Stanley Road the committee pulled out all the stops to ensure an unforgettable night.
A lavish marquee was located on the grounds of the school with live entertainment. The evening included canapés, a three-course meal and late-night cheese buffet together with a lively auction of top prizes.
More than eighty people attended our glamour-packed Ladies Evening on 6 June 2017 starring two of the county's beauty glitterati.
The event welcomed special guests Nick Malenko, hairdresser to the stars at Royston Blythe in Shrewsbury and celebrity skincare guru Deborah Mitchell of Heaven.
Organised by the Friends of the Old Hall School Committee the evening of pampering included a raffle with beauty goodies up for grabs. A number of guests were treated to makeovers while both Nick and Deborah shared tips, advice and anecdotes from their work with an array of A-list stars.
The night raised more than £1000 towards a variety of projects at the school to benefit all pupils including new outdoor play equipment.
The committee would like to thank all those who attended and supported the Ladies Night.
The Friends annual Summer Ball was held at the Park House Hotel in Shifnal on Saturday 11th June 2016. We took on the theme of Downton Abbey for the evening with backdrops of the house and stairway for photos which were taken by the in-house photographer - a fun evening with a DJ, four course meal and auction.
Lots of festive fun was had at the Christmas Fayre. From handbags to fish, cakes to sushi there was something for everyone. We were even extremely lucky to have Santa come and visit us too! A huge thank you to the Friends of The Old Hall School for their tremendous hard work in putting on this wonderful event.
The event raised over £1300 along with the Christmas Hampers which also raised the same amount.
A huge well done to all the finalists who took part in the competition, and particular congratulations to Daniel Lee-O'Neil who was voted the winner with his brilliant rendition of 'Someone Like You' by Adele!
This project raised funds for a new grand piano, and Mr Thorpe kindly organised Old Hall’s first X Factor to meet this fund raising goal...
For those who had had dreams...
Of becoming a star?
Of singing live to a cheering crowd?
Of being crowned X Factor champion?
Well, now their time had come!
2015 saw the launch of Old Hall's first ever X Factor auditions and event. The top acts from the auditions went through to the final on the evening of Friday 20th November where they sung with a live band to impress a panel of judges (no, Simon was not invited) and the audience. The best performer, Daniel Lee-O'Neil in the eyes of the judges and audience was crowned Old Hall X Factor champion 2015.
Friday 6th November 2015 saw us hosting the annual Bonfire and Fireworks display. A family event where we lit the Bonfire and sold food and novelties for the children while watching a fantastic fireworks display. A great time was had by all!
On the first day of the new term was a great success and we met many new parents to the school who were interested in what we do as a social and fundraising committee on behalf of the school.
Well, what fun we had at the Dinner and Dance. We arrived looking marvellous for drinks and canapés on the lawn. It was a beautiful evening which made it all so much nicer. Photographs were taken and we were asked for our choices of menu for the evening’s meal.
We were then invited into the marquee and sat down to a fantastic meal. Everything was impeccably served and efficient. Juliet Pea won £200 on the Heads and Tails game and lots of happy people won an array of fabulous raffle prizes.
Andrew Huxley and Nathan Rous entertained us while getting bids in for the auction and we raised over £6000. In all, the evening raised well over £7000 towards the new grand piano purchase for the school and our children.
It was a memorable evening and it is thanks to the hard work and tremendous efforts on the part of the Committee in making it one of the top fundraising events in the School calendar. We are now planning where next year's event will be held. Please try and support us next year or at future events as all monies raised go towards making our children's lives at Old Hall School even better.
What a night we had! 110 lovely ladies were entertained by Nick Malenko and Deborah Mitchell in the best possible way. Deborah explained about her infamous Bee Venom and how it works on the skin. She also told us about other products she has developed such as sensitive cleansing wipes and an eyelash and eyebrow dye treatment that lasts for up to 8 weeks. She chose Carol Bushnell for a transformation, and what a transformation it was. Carol was treated to a Bee Sting facial with Deborah and then Nick took her off to perform a re-style.
Nick also re-styled Susan Pritchard’s hair and how fab it looked! It was amazing and she loves it as we all do.
The Friends had put on a glorious spread of cheese and biscuits, olives and crisps followed by a fabulous cheesecake and meringues kindly donated by Anna Dean and washed down with wine and soft drinks kindly donated by Lesley Horton, on behalf of Addison Wines. The Heaven girls were on hand to give free mini treatments throughout the evening and no one wanted to leave! The atmosphere was electric with lots of Heaven products to buy at discounted rates and we all took goody bags home, again generously donated by Heaven salon.
We have had lots of positive comments and want to thank those involved with the organisation; Anna, Susan, Kim, Lindsay, Annabelle and Lesley. We would like to thank Nick and Deborah for their generosity, friendliness and huge sense of fun on the night and their staff for their help in making the evening so entertaining. Thanks must also go to school chef Stuart for his help, Chris for organising all the furniture and Mr Thorpe for fitting us in to his very busy schedule right before the play.
We have raised over £1800 for the school and our children. Fantastic!
The most recent of these bi-annual events run by the Friends committee raised £1176.46. The selling of books through this fair contributes towards the school purchasing new books for our children so thanks to everyone who bought new books - we hope the children are enjoying reading them.
Years 5 and 6 had their inaugural disco on 6th March 2015. It went with a swing and a bang as the children had a fantastic time grooving away with Mr Jones at the helm of newly purchased disco equipment and lights, courtesy of you, all through the Friends fundraising. The Friends committee supported the event and we would like to thank those members who busily made cakes, cookies, savoury food and plenty of squash! Some 100 balloons were blown up by Susan and Anna and Mr Thorpe’s dancing shoes were a sight to behold. The children drew up their own playlist which Mr Jones kindly played throughout the event and we hope that the children thoroughly enjoyed the change from the usual end of school day. We would like to say a big thank you to Mr Jones for his time and effort at the disco; another career in the making perhaps! Click below to see what a great night it was with a reminder of Mr Thorpe's fabulous dancing shoes.
