The Old Hall School

Colts A v Packwood Haugh School
It was great to play some cricket and the standard on show was fantastic. We bowled first and had to keep the line and length as accurate as possible. Unfortunately despite Jamie W taking two wickets and Sam T and Josh M's efforts, we were unable to contain Packwood and they scored an impressive 147. The highlight of our fielding was Josh taking an amazing diving catch and hitting the stumps with a direct hit from the boundary.
When batting we were nervous and as a result the wickets fell and we were unable to help Ethan reach his first 50. He batted for 20 overs and scored 22 not out.
Well done to all who played this season and thank you to the parents and grandparents who came to support the boys.
It has been a very wet cricket season which prevented our momentum as a team. However, the training sessions have been fun with lots of improvement all round.

Packwood Haugh School Colts B v The Old Hall Colts B

After a scenic detour route the Colts B prepared to take on Packwood who were known to be very strong this year. We put Packwood in to bat first and set about trying to bowl a good line and length at them. Will D bowled very well and from one of his excellent deliveries Freddie M-J took a superb catch. After 10 overs Packwood were 42 for the loss of 2 wickets and we were doing well.

We then struggled a little bit as the game went on and Packwood ended up with 122 for 3. Ben C deserves a mention as he took two terrific wickets during the first part of the match.

After tea it was our turn to bat and our two openers strode out determined to play straight and punish any bad deliveries. Sadly this was short-lived and we lost three wickets in quick succession!  Fortunately for us, Freddie M-J came in to steady the ship and set about trying to play a controlled innings. He did this very well and was well supported by some of the boys coming in to help him.

Despite some heroic efforts and some genuine attempts to play straight, we were never going to catch Packwood's grand total and unfortunately we lost the game.

The boys should not be too disheartened as there was plenty to learn from this game and considering it was only our third competitive match of the season, the progress the team have made has been incredible. They were all a pleasure to be with throughout the afternoon and let's hope that they continue to improve in such fine fashion. Well done lads!

Mr Jones.
